Ghanche
Khaplu
A peaceful valley on the Shyok River, rich in Balti heritage

Overview
Khaplu lies on the Shyok River in Ghanche district and is known for its restored palace, its historic mosque and views towards the peaks above the Hushe Valley.
Khaplu is one of the most rewarding places in Baltistan to understand Balti culture. Its old palace has been carefully restored, and the village climbs in terraces above the Shyok River.
It makes a calm base for a few days: visit the palace and the historic Chaqchan Mosque, walk the village lanes, and take day trips towards Machulu, Nangma and the Hushe Valley.
