Hunza

Hunza

Orchards, old forts and some of the Karakoram's great peaks

Overview

Hunza is a valley of terraced orchards and stone villages along the Karakoram Highway, overlooked by peaks such as Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar.

For many visitors, Hunza is the first picture of northern Pakistan: terraced fields, poplar and apricot trees, and old forts above the villages of Karimabad and Altit, with high peaks on every side.

Further up the valley, the road passes Attabad Lake and continues to Gulmit and Passu, where the jagged Passu Cones rise above the river. Hunza suits a slower pace, with time for village walks, local food and viewpoints at the start and end of the day.
